Dr. Odette Murara

Research Coordinator

As a research coordinator, Dr. Odette Murara brings her research and community development expertise to the project. Dr. Murara has done ethnographic community-based research on African immigrants in South Africa for her doctoral studies. She has worked with community-based organizations providing services to residents in-need including African immigrants in Calgary. Her research experience and interest in migration studies, anti-racism, and diversity, are key to how she continually connects with Black communities and their lived experiences in diaspora.

In addition to coordinating different activities of the project, she aims at utilizing her cultural anthropology and community development skills to review the notion of relational engagement and cultural safety in Black communities that underpin this study project. Outside of work, Dr. Murara enjoys cooking, socializing, and organizing gatherings.
