Keisha Smuk

Research Assistant

Keisha Smuk (she/they) graduated from the University of Calgary’s Social Work program in 2022 and is currently a provisionally registered social worker. They began working with Dr. Patrina Duhaney for their senior practicum and joined the research team as a research assistant after graduation. They first learned about critical race theory (CRT) in an undergraduate class and became interested in the controversy around CRT in the United States, which led to them partnering with Dr. Duhaney to write an Op-Ed on CRT.

Throughout their time working with, and learning from Dr. Duhaney’s various projects, Keisha hopes to contribute to literature that has not been previously researched, while unlearning and expanding from the confinement of Eurocentric ideals. Outside of work, they enjoy spending their free time reading, cooking, making pottery, and exploring nature.
